A Haunted House 2 (2014)

Worse than getting possessed

Having exorcised the demons of his ex, Malcolm is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, however, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events.

Last year, Marlon Wayans made a return to film with another poor entry into the spoof genre. Sadly, it was a hit, meaning a sequel was inevitable, and one year later, here we are.

As expected, it makes the most forced attempts at ripping off recent horror films, with The Conjuring, The Devil Inside and Sinister being amongst the victims. But this is more preferable to its attempts at humor, which involves toilet humor, spousal abuse and killing dogs.

Early on, the film redoes a gag from the first film, where Marlon Wayans has sex with an inanimate object. Only this time, the stuffed animal is replaced with the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring. This gag then proceeds to get stretched out over the course of the film, turning it into a destructive sexual relationship.

Wayans' contributions to the film as leading man is to pretty much scream in a high-pitched tone and perform over-exaggerated attempts at acting. Jaime Pressly serves no purpose than to get annoyed over misunderstandings, leaving an impression of annoyance. Gabriel Iglesias' scenes follows the same formula where he gets offended by a racial stereotype Malcolm makes, but then fulfills said stereotype.

If you really intend on seeing A Haunted House 2, be sure to save a seat for the person holding a gun to your head.
