Fifty Shades of Green (Not really...)

Director: Jeremy Saulnier
Running Time: 95 Minutes
Starring: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Callum Turner, Patrick Stewart, Macon Blair

In a desperate bid to earn some money, punk band The Ain't Rights agree to play a gig secluded in woods. Discovering they're playing a bar populated with neo-Nazi skinheads, they kick off their set with the ballsy choice of performing a cover of Dead Kennedys' "Nazi Punks, Fuck Off".

After the set, the band accidentally stumble upon a murder. The only witnesses, along with club regular Amber (Imogen Poots), they barricade themselves within one room. Unfortunately, they're now the targets of club owner Darcy (Patrick Stewart), and his gang of vicious skinheads.

Utilizing the confined setting and tense scenario, Jeremy Saulnier is intent on squeezing out as much tension as possible, which perpetuates throughout the picture to deliver something entirely effective. Bursts of unflinching violence are effectual in jolting viewers, leaving yet another reminder of the horrific scenario these characters are trapped in. The cast do a terrific job, be it Patrick Stewart relishing his villainous role, or the members of the Ain't Rights who sell their fear, be it plain on their face, or hidden beneath a tough façade.

A claustrophobic cat and mouse game which will leave you unsettled and tense, Green Room is a terrific piece of work that leaves one excited for whatever Jeremy Saulnier delivers next.
